Black Eagle Sighting

On the 15th of July 2008, a juvenile eagle was spotted circling the air above the lion reserve. The pied crows, which claimed the lion reserve area as their own, chased it off. On the very same day, another ranger spotted two juveniles together, gliding along the rock faces. While on fence patrol, two rangers spotted three eagles together! This is the first recorded sighting on the reserve of three eagles together. The group consisted of two adults and one juvenile.
On the 17th of July 2008, a juvenile was spotted around the same area where the two juveniles were spotted two days previously. It is quite possible that this could be one of those two, now on its own. Two adults were also spotted very far into the reserve, in the Third Valley. Another juvenile was seen on its own in the Second Valley. Later that day, a ranger again saw a juvenile circling the air above the lion reserve. The sightings of these juveniles are quite exiting, and the fact that there are two in the area even more so. This is because a pair of black eagles will only raise one chick. The presence of two indicates that there must be another breeding pair in the area.
Two adults were spotted circling the air above Stone Cottage, situated deep into the Second Valley of the reserve.
